LinkedIn Recommendations add more credibility to your experience and work history (KNOW, LIKE & TRUST).

They can go a long way when it comes to having a successful interaction with a potential boss or customer.

They can only be written by LinkedIn members to recognize a connection, such as a colleague, business partner, or student. People who view your profile will often read the recommendations you’ve received so they can see what others have to say about your work.

How do you go about requesting a recommendation? There are two ways….

Requesting a recommendation from a connection’s profile:

  • Go to the connection’s profile
  • Click the More… icon in the top section of the profile
  • Select Request a recommendation
  • Fill out the Relationship and Position at the time fields of the recommendations pop-up window and click Next
  • You can include a personalized message with your request by changing the text in the message field
  • Click Send

Requesting a recommendation from your profile:

  • Click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage
  • Select View profile
  • Scroll down to the Recommendations section and click Ask to be recommended
  • Type the name of the connection you’d like to ask for a recommendation in the Who do you want to ask? field
  • Select the name from the drop-down that appears
  • Fill out the Relationship and Position at the time fields of the recommendations pop-up window and click Next
  • You can include a personalized message with your request by changing the text in the message field
  • Click Send

If the connection responds to your request and writes you a recommendation, you’ll be notified via a message. You’ll then have to accept the recommendation in order for it to appear on your profile.

In Conclusion….

LinkedIn Recommendations are seen as a high-quality trust signal from both LinkedIn and the people who view your profile. They are building that KNOW, LIKE & TRUST.

In my next blog post, I will talk about why you need a social media manager.
