The last three months of the year can get busy quickly.

Between running your business, helping clients, attending events, planning promotions, and getting ready for the holidays, social media can easily become one more thing on your to-do list.

A little planning in September can make October, November, and December feel much more manageable.

You don’t need every post written and scheduled before October begins. You simply need a plan for what is coming.

Use this Q4 social media checklist to get started.

Your Q4 Social Media Checklist: What to Have Ready Before October

✅ Review Your Business Goals

Before planning your content, decide what you want social media to help you accomplish during Q4.

Your goal might be to:

  • Promote a product or service
  • Book more client sessions
  • Fill an upcoming event or workshop
  • Grow your email list
  • Build relationships with your audience
  • Increase your visibility
  • Prepare your audience for something coming next year

Your goals will help you decide what content to create and what calls to action to include.

✅ Add Important Dates to Your Calendar

Start by adding the dates that matter to your business.

These may include:

  • Promotions
  • Product launches
  • Events or webinars
  • Registration deadlines
  • Business anniversaries
  • Holiday hours
  • Vacation days
  • Days your business will be closed
  • Important industry dates

Once these dates are on your calendar, you can plan your content around them.

✅ Choose the Holidays You Want to Recognize

Your business doesn’t need to post about every holiday.

Choose the holidays that connect naturally with your business, audience, or values.

You may want to include:

  • Halloween
  • Thanksgiving
  • Small Business Saturday
  • Christmas
  • Hanukkah
  • New Year’s Eve
  • Fun national days related to your business

✅ Plan Your Q4 Promotions

If you’re offering a holiday special, hosting an event, or promoting a product or service, decide when the promotion will begin and end.

Don’t wait until the last minute to mention it.

Plan several posts that:

  • Introduce the offer
  • Explain how it helps
  • Answer common questions
  • Share a testimonial or success story
  • Remind your audience about the deadline
  • Tell people how to take the next step

Repeating your offer gives more people a chance to see it.

✅ Choose Your Main Content Topics

Decide what you want to talk about during October, November, and December.

Choosing a few main topics for each month will make content creation easier.

For example:

October: Holiday preparation and planning

November: Gratitude, relationships, and natural promotion

December: Reflection, rest, and preparing for the new year

Your topics should connect to your business goals while still being helpful to your audience.

✅ Look for Content You Can Reuse

You don’t need to create everything from scratch.

Look through your:

  • Blog posts
  • Newsletters
  • Social media posts
  • Videos
  • Presentations
  • Client questions
  • Holiday content from previous years

Find content that is still useful and update it.

You can change the introduction, use a new example, create a different graphic, or turn one long piece of content into several shorter posts.

✅ Create the Graphics You’ll Need

Make a list of any graphics, photos, or videos you will need for Q4.

This might include:

  • Holiday graphics
  • Promotional graphics
  • Event announcements
  • Testimonials
  • Blog graphics
  • Business-hours reminders
  • End-of-year thank-you posts
  • New Year posts

Canva is a great tool for creating your social media graphics. You can use templates, add your brand colors and fonts, and resize your designs for different platforms.

You can also create a few simple templates for the types of content you share regularly. Then, instead of starting from scratch every time, you can update the words, photos, or colors.

Creating your graphics ahead of time will help your content look consistent and save you from scrambling when things get busy.

✅ Update Your Links and Information

Take a few minutes to review your social media profiles.

Check your:

  • Website link
  • Scheduling link
  • Email address
  • Business hours
  • About section
  • Services
  • Featured content
  • Calls to action

Make sure everything is current and that people can easily find the next step you want them to take.

✅ Start Writing and Scheduling Content

Once your plan is ready, begin writing and scheduling your posts.

You don’t need to schedule all three months at once. Start with October. Then work ahead a little at a time.

You could schedule your main posts and leave room for personal updates, timely topics, and spontaneous content.

Having a plan does not mean you can’t be flexible. It simply gives you a starting point.

✅ Make Time to Connect

Social media is not only about posting.

Make time to:

  • Respond to comments
  • Reply to messages
  • Comment on other people’s posts
  • Welcome new connections
  • Check in with clients and colleagues
  • Start conversations

Scheduling your content ahead of time gives you more time to focus on building relationships.

You Don’t Have to Finish Everything Today

Your Q4 plan doesn’t need to be perfect. Start with your goals, important dates, and main topics. Then create your content in smaller steps.

The work you do now will help you stay visible and consistent during a busy season without feeling like you always need to come up with something at the last minute.
